Why not? If it's going to be the 2017 Opel Insignia why wouldn't it be the 2017/2018 Buick Regal?

Because it won't be, that picture was tweeted by Opel CEO Karl Thomas Neumann, a few weeks ago. You don't think that an Opel CEO would be stupid enough to leak a product, so early in it's development cycle.

the way things are going, the Buick Regal will probably be a plug-in hybrid hatchback that gets 40/40 mpg's.... yup, that wouldn't surprise me one bit :'(

That will be Buck's version of the Volt/Opel Ampera.

Also, nothing wrong with hatchbacks.

The Regal is available as a hatchback (and as a wagon) since the beginning of this generation (2008). It's just not available in the US.

Notice the rear wiper on the car on the left.
